Manufactured 1MN (100 tonne) Robinson Vibration Damper (PVD)

The family of Vibration Dampers includes a number of compact efficient damping devices developed by Robinson Seismic Ltd for providing 'added damping' or 'supplementary damping' to tall and/or flexible structures.
PVD Linear Vibration Dampers
The PVD vibration damper is ideal for absorbing both small and medium size
vibrations which occur during earthquakes, high winds and also heavy
traffic. Used for damping oscillations in Bridge decks and in wall damping
of high rise structures.
The PVD has recently been used to provide additional damping at
displacements of 2µm to 10mm to a number of bridges thereby increasing the
fatigue life of the bridge structure. The PVD enables any amount of damping
to be supplied to a structure.
A standard device is sensitive to movements as small as ± 2µm such as
expected in wind or traffic induced vibration, to ± 10mm as expected in a
large earthquake. Larger devices have displacement capabilities of up to ±
100 mm. Associated damping force ranges from 1 kN to 1000 kN.
RVD Planar Vibration Dampers
The RVD vibration damper is ideal for absorbing both small and medium-size
vibrations on cable stay bridges which occur during earthquakes, high
winds and rain storms.
Used for damping oscillations in the bridge's cables the RVD will lessen
the stresses experienced and therefore lengthen the life of the structure.

For unidirectional (PVD) or planer (RVD) damping of vibrations caused by
earthquakes, wind, traffic, etc. These robust dampers are able to
withstand many cycles.
